ITS all systems go for the Extraordinary Summit of the SADC Heads of State and Government which Zimbabwe will host in Harare next week.
The Extraordinary Summit will be preceded by the meetings of the Standing Committee of senior officials which will be held tomorrow (Saturday and Sunday).
The Council of Ministers meeting will be held on Monday and Tuesday.
Delegates for the summit are expected to start arriving today (Friday) and the preceding meetings will be held at Meikles Hotel, while Heads of State and Government will be meeting at Rainbow Towers.
Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Joey Bimha, told our Harare Bureau that all was in place for the April 29 Extraordinary Summit.
He said Zimbabwe had invited African Union Commission chairperson, Dr Nkosazana Dhlamini-Zuma,
United Nations Economic Commission for Africa executive secretary, Dr Carlos Lopez and COMESA secretary-general, Dr Sindiso Ngwenya.
“They were invited to attend in light of the fact that we are discussing the issue of industrialisation.
“We expect recommendations made by the Ministerial Taskforce on Regional Economic Intergration to be discussed by the Standing Committee of Senior Officials and then make recommendations to the Council of Ministers who will in turn forward them to Summit where we hope the recommendations will be endorsed,” said Ambassador Bimha.
Regional leaders resolved during the 34th SADC Summit held in Victoria Falls in August last year to give impetus to beneficiation and value addition as part of a broader industrialisation strategy.
