ALL is set for the first Zimbabwe Kids and Teen models prize giving ceremony to be held on December 10 at the Zimbabwe College of Music in Harare.
In an interview with H-Metro, Mary Mundeya, the director of MY Image Consultancy, which is the host organisation, said they were inspired by the fact that there were few activities for kids in pageantry.
“We noticed there are a lot of activities for grown-up models who are in the fashion industry, designers and others, but we don’t have a lot of activities when it comes to kids and teen models.
“As much as they are contributing significantly to Zimbabwe’s fashion and beauty industry, they often grow unrecognised.
“This is why I decided to start the Zimbabwe Kids and Teen Awards so that we recognise talents in kids and teenagers.
“They are often left out in a lot of activities in the fashion and beauty industry,” she said.
Mundeya said they faced a lot of challenges.
“The challenge was that some modelling agencies did not submit their models and they ended up submitting on their own to us.
“It was a bit hectic because a lot of parents ended up submitting portfolios for their kids.
“Mostly, this is because of the controversy that has surrounded the Zimbabwe fashion industry that we are trying to demystify and bring positive results,” she said.
She is hoping to get the parents’ full support.
“I hope that parents will see something tangible out of it and we gain their support in terms of dealing with children, which is a critical matter.
“We are hoping that the outcome will be bigger and better, we will get a lot of sponsorship so that it goes a long way.
“Our guest of honour is arts champion Honourable Fortune Chasi.
“Our confirmed celebrity guests are Miss Zimbabwe Belinda Pots, Miss UZ 2022 Kudzai Matizha and her first runner-up Nyasha Amanda and Miss Golden Africa, Sindiso Dube,” Mundeya said
