IN an effort to intensify the fight against rampant timber theft at their plantations, Allied Timbers Zimbabwe (ATZ) have initiated capacity building programmes for their security personnel by partnering the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).

ATZ company chairman, Mr Itai Ndudzo said the move is meant to train their security staff on ways to reduce losses that the company incurs due to theft of timber while also combating vandalism of equipment and machinery.

He added that to date over 90 of their security guards have been successfully trained and are being deployed at their plantations after graduating.

Timber companies in Manicaland Province have over the years lost millions of United States dollars owing to theft of timber at plantations and vandalism of property.
