Amanxeba actor Gorilla basking in glory

UP-AND-COMING actor, Brian “Baraack_Bozza” Sibanda is in the form of his life after scooping the Favourite Actor Award from a poll run by 3ktv for the Amanxeba series last month.

Producers of the series ran a poll on social media to ascertain the actor/actress who was liked most by fans and Sibanda’s “Gorilla” character came up trumps.

The series that has been getting rave reviews has been a launchpad for a lot of careers and Sibanda is grateful to Greatjoy Hlatshwayo who co-directs the series, for the shot.

“If it wasn’t for Greatjoy Hlatshwayo, I wouldn’t have been the actor I am today. He’s the one that put me into the spotlight leading to my win of the Favourite Actor Award last month. The award came as a surprise as I received a call from the producers of the series while I was busy conducting school sports at White City Stadium.

“The person on the other side of the line asked me to travel to Harare on that very day. I panicked and didn’t know what to do, but I went there and I’m grateful for all the support from the cast and my fans,” Sibanda said.

The 27-year-old actor has a musical background as well. He co-founded the quintet yesteryear house music group, “Loxion Poison” in 2010 before venturing on a solo career. Two is better than one and Sibanda would attest to that as he added life behind the camera to his budding music career.

“Around 2018, I began to venture into the acting industry. I was inspired by the likes of Ernest Ndlovu, the late Menzi Ngubane, Israel Matseke Zulu, Rapulana Seiphemo, Masoja Msiza and Ronnie Nyakale.

During my tenure at Magwegwe High School, my classmates used to call me Papa action as people thought I had the artistic nouse to be like Yizo Yizo’s Ronnie Nyakale.

“I did many auditions up until I was cast in the Jaws of Death series that was directed by Gift Wazharemhaka. That’s when the dam began to burst. After that, I got roles in the following series, ‘Uhlupho, Amanxeba, The mystery, 8ta zikhiphan and Maliwe,” he said.

Danger is always lurking when Sibanda is around as evidenced by his roles being, “thuggish”. His Gorilla character in Amanxeba is a dangerous prisoner.

Sibanda urged film lovers to expect more of the same from his new role in Maliwe.

The ambitious actor who is also a teacher and scriptwriter is on a mission to broaden his scope and has a clearly laid-out plan.

“My long-term plan is to get a scholarship in the Film and Acting industry. I’m a scriptwriter but I lack the resources to produce my own piece of work and I wish to collaborate with the more experienced people in the film industry,” he said. — @MbuleloMpofu
