Are we there yet?

You would be perplexed if you were to conduct a survey of the number of people who plan but never take their notions into action. The results are likely to implicate the fact that more than two-thirds of the population never make it to the stage where they transform ideas into action.

Are we there? Where exactly?

The answer is very simple . . . making our motherland the place we want it to be concerning economic, academic, social, religious and environmental issues. Yes, certain things can be blamed as a reason why people shelf their ideas. Movies for example, have twisted the truth, such that people now believe in the reality of imaginary things. We possess dreams that make others think that our minds are lapsed or have larceny in them. We have a mission of “getting there” but in so far the manner, are we doing anything prior to our mission or the question remains unanswered that ‘are we there?’’

Legalising the illegal is what persists in the mentality of a “Mukorokoza”. According to the law, it is the case of punishing those who go against the Constitution. A patriotic Zimbabwean without pride strives for a crime-free environment, but is he/she there? Probably he/she can never find an opportunity to work towards that. Are we helping to get there together with him or this will remain a fallacy, a realised phantom?

We are now living in a society where religion is now causing a very great impact on humanity. Yes we are living in the prophetic era- believe it. Every human being has the right to choose what he/she wants with choice of church included too. A scenario that has been prevailing in the country was the dominance of mainline churches and probably the oldest in the country- Anglican, United Methodist, Roman Catholic, but there are churches sprouting from all corners of the nation. The question is “Are we still aiming at a Zimbabwe where religion is not becoming a money-making business in which fellow congregants exploit each other and where religion is not ever-revolving around controversy and prejudice? Are we there?

Fresh investors exist in a country. We hope they will assist us to survive in such an economy. They say there is lack of clarity and predictability in so far as the manner indigenisation is implemented.

Statistics show that nearly 70 percent of the population live below the poverty datum line. The nation has a dream, that one day we shall go back to a free market economy. But are we there? Are we going to do anything to get there?

Actions directly linked to ignorance can be justified but only to a certain level. The alarming and pathetic rate at which desertification is taking place can be traced back to ignorance but can we justify ignorance and allow desertification continue? Matter of factly if the rate of desertification continues to rise rapidly then some animals that are already on the verge of extinction will be history. Animals also need territories.

By reducing vegetation through excessive deforestation, animals like birds tend to be homeless. Reducing desertification rate is not the practise of pathetic fallacy. A man’s personality and character are not only portrayed by his actions but also by the environment from which he hails. Are we there as a people of Zimbabwe as far as protecting our environment is concerned

Two minutes we are flying into Brazil, venturing into football competition. Thirty countries are in a battle zone for fame and a pure gold World Cup trophy. Prior to that, the golden ball, glove and boot. At that very same moment, the mental faculties of Zimbabweans flash red lights to indicate a question: Does Katsande deserve another chance with the Warriors?

Taking a stroll down memory lane, this was after a shock result, second leg encounter of AFCON 2015, they had fallen 0-1 in Dar-es-salaam. This means AFCON 2015 was a phantom. In both situations, we congratulate the winners and sympathise with the losers. Are we there yet? What are we doing to get there?

We were never born victors neither are we powerful beyond measure. Since day one, we aimed to reach the greatest heights. During our examinations, we at Ordinary Level and will at Advanced Level and aim for the best grades, and nail the hardest of them all. In collaboration with the nation, we have set goals for ourselves, in one law, one voice, one truth and one destination as a congregation. Are we there or will we ever get there? We hope so because we are doing something. In one word, WORK!!
