Two people were attacked and robbed of property worth US$121 by two unidentified suspects wielding dangerous weapons in Bulawayo’s Rangemore suburb.
The incident occurred on 24 June 2026 at around 8pm near Rangemore Shopping Centre, shortly after the complainants had disembarked from a commuter omnibus and were walking home.
Unknown suspects suddenly confronted the pair, one armed with an axe and the other carrying an Okapi knife, and ordered them to lie on the ground facing downwards.
Once the victims complied, the attackers searched them and stole four mobile phones and a small speaker box.
During the attack, one of the victims was struck twice with the back of an axe on the chin and lost consciousness.
His companion attempted to escape but was also assaulted and sustained injuries while fleeing the scene. The second victim managed to get away despite bleeding from the attack.
The stolen property, valued at US$121, was not recovered.
The attackers fled immediately after the robbery and have not yet been traced.
Investigations are ongoing, with police appealing for information that could lead to arrests.
Confirming the incident, Bulawayo Police spokesperson urged residents to avoid walking alone at night, particularly in poorly lit areas, and to exercise caution when carrying valuables.
She said robberies involving dangerous weapons remain a concern in suburban areas and called for increased community vigilance, while appealing for information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
