THREE men, who were part of a gang of armed robbers whose faces went viral on social media after they were captured on CCTV during a robbery, are now facing the music.
They appeared in court facing five counts of armed robbery.
Sarezi Shonhiwa, Tafadzwa Chakuteka and Willye Chirawu were initially brought to court on Monday and the State successfully applied for a warrant for further detention.
They were formally placed before the court yesterday.
The court heard that on June 23 last year, the first complainant was at work at Nutrition Africa with his other workmates when they were confronted by the trio, and their accomplices, who are at large.
They were putting on face masks and were armed with machetes, a hammer, a knife and an axe
They ordered the complainant and his workmates to lie down and they tied their hands and legs.
The robbers searched the complainant and took his cell phones.
They force marched the complainant around the premises ordering him to show them where the company money was kept.
They broke into one of the offices from which they stole four 20litre buckets, which had beef, they stole a case of sugar and a case of soya beans.
They fled from the scene after an alarm went off.
Nothing was recovered.
In the second count, the court heard that the robbers hit a premise in the Tynwald Industrial area.
They were armed with a pistol.
They searched the premises and stole US$1500 in cash, two laptops, 20 golf T-shirts, ten pairs of jeans, various phones, three television sets, solar batteries and a camera.
On October 26 this year, the robbers attacked a house at Number 3A Christon Road, Christon Bank.
They attacked the gardener in his cottage. The robbers ransacked the house and took US$160 cash from a handbag and US$600 from a wallet.
They stole six cellphones, a gas tank, and groceries.
