Army rescues Chimhowa community

THE Chimhowa community in Buhera North constituency is one of the biggest beneficiaries of this year’s defence charity work after scores of villagers witnessed the official opening of St Moses Clinic during the launch of this year’s Defence Week last Thursday.

Speaking during the official opening of the clinic, guest of honour, Zimbabwe National Army Commander, General Constantine Guvheya Chiwenga, who was standing in for Minister of Defence, Dr Sydney Sekeremayi, urged the villagers to remain cognisant of the value of independence.

Gen Chiwenga chronicled the numerous community development projects carried out by the defence forces in various parts of the country.

He thanked the local Member of the National Assembly, Cde William Mutomba for facilitating the funding of the project through the Constituency Development Fund.

“Independence came for all of us and it is the legacy we have to give to these children and future generations. As an army, we value education and health in our community relations programmes. Last year we did the same in Dzivarasekwa in Harare.

“We are happy with the efforts of the local Member of the National Assembly, Cde William Mutomba whom we partnered in the construction of this clinic. This is living testimony that he put the Constituency Development Fund to good use. He also deserves your support.

“We helped in the construction of the Dangamvura-Dora footbridge, in Matabeleland South we constructed an Early Childhood Education classroom. In Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe there is a vocational training centre. Through the Presidential Guard, we put up administration blocks at Fundo and Vainona schools. We have projects in Mashonaland Central. Dande is an underdeveloped area and we put up a clinic and as I speak, we are constructing a secondary school. The projects are numerous to spell out one by one. This is evidence that this is an army committed to supporting Government efforts in education and health,” he said.

Addressing villagers at the same function, Cde Mutomba thanked the Zimbabwe National Army for their efforts in improving livelihoods in communities.

Senior army officials including Air Force Commander, Air Marshal Perrance Shiri and 3 Brigade Commander, Brigadier-General Lazarus Gutu graced the occasion.
