AU student fined $100

AN Africa University student was last week fined $100 for malicious damage to property when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Poterai Gwazhira. Alfonso Kitumba (22), a foreign student pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay $100 fine or serve two months in prison. He was also ordered to pay back $60 for the windscreen he broke. Failure to do so, he would spend three months in prison.

Prosecutor, Mrs Tatenda Magwagwa, said on October 3, Kitumba smashed the windscreen of Promise Bhebhe’s Nissan Sunny car.
“At around 10.15pm at Petroleum Trade, in Mutare, Bhebhe was on the queue waiting for fuel when a group of boys approached the place speaking in foreign language.

“The overzealous Kitumba suddenly used his left leg and kicked the window of the car and it broke into pieces. The smashed windscreen is valued at $60,” she said.
