In our last edition we carried an article on drama that ensued in a kombi after it was discovered that it was carrying a snake parcel, complete with young snakes!
The incident reportedly gave the travellers a fright and the vehicle reportedly drove off, leaving them stranded. There is a growing trend of abuse of reptiles.
Whether the snakes are kept as pets or for whatever reason, keeping wild animals is an occupation that requires a permit from wildlife authorities. The snake parcel in the kombi makes us wonder how often human passengers share transport with reptiles unaware.
Apart from the danger of being bitten by these reptiles, it is culturally unacceptable to be moving around with snakes.
Snakes are generally associated with evil, and in some cultures, with witchcraft and dark spiritual forces hence some people’s fascination with such leaves society worried.
Elsewhere in this issue we carry yet another story of a man that approached a police station to hand over his huge snake that he complained was now bothering him.
It is indeed a crazy, crazy world. This is just one individual that has owned up that they are keeping a snake in their home and we wonder how many more are keeping such reptiles in their homes, and for what reasons. We cannot help but speculate that such animals are used by those that dabble in matters of the underworld where dark forces reign supreme.
That some people have gone to such lengths in a bid to accumulate wealth is a worrying trend that will make even the young generation not see the value of hard work but instead turn to ritual killings in search of muthi and the use of unnatural means such as keeping ritualistic snakes and other animals in their homes.
This trend of men attempting to surrender their problem muthi or mystic paraphernalia to the police has been witnessed before where a man once tried to hand over to police his tools that he used to dispatch lightning to his enemies.
Needless to say, after a brief demonstration on how the tools worked, the police refused to keep a potential bomb in their station.
Dark forces are wreaking havoc out there and it is important for people to desist from involving themselves in things that they do not understand since they eventually steal their joy. It cannot be business as usual if you see a grown man pleading with the police to help him and take care of his reptile.
We believe our spiritual leaders need to work extra hard to address the extreme happenings that are recurring rather frequently nowadays. Or could the attempt to surrender such creatures be a form of repentance?
Anything that brings fear to our communities is undesirable and as such should be gotten rid of. Let us say no to strange cultic crafts.
