CAPS United have been going backwards on and off the pitch!

After the 1-0 defeat to rivals Dynamos at Rufaro on Sunday, they occupy the last safe position on the log, tied on 32 points with DeMbare who have an inferior goal difference.

That defeat only amplified the problem for a club that now seems to be forever on the retreat.

For the record, the Harare giants have adopted the bizarre ritual, walking backwards when getting into the changing rooms.

It seemed to work against FC Platinum, but after facing mixed fortunes after that, this has left fans and stakeholders curious.

“It is a practice that was brought to life by the coaches, and the players just did as instructed,” a source revealed on Monday.

This is not however the first time that a club has adopted certain rituals before matches, with some just doing it as part of mind games.

For Ian Bakala’s men, this seems not to be working for now.

The Zambian coach has struggled to lift CAPS United after taking over from Lloyd Chitembwe.

In the last eight games, they have lost five, drawn one and won two.

Relegation threat for now is real.

The defeat to Dynamos came at a time when management had promised lucrative winning bonuses.

According to an insider, the club director, Farai Jere, dangled significant financial incentives ahead of their match against Dynamos.

Players were promised a $1000 winning bonus each for a victory, with an additional $500 draw bonus each on offer for their Herentals game.. The Herentals draw bonus was however on condition they first win the derby.
