SUNDAY “Mhofu” Chidzambwa stretched his unbeaten run at Nyamhunga to 19 games after his charges dispatched Harare City yesterday.

Former Caps United linkman Godknows Mangani converted from the spot after giant striker Francesco Zekumbawire was hacked down by Ray Uchena in the 26th minute.

Zekumbawire then got onto the scoresheet in the 58th minute with a simple tap-in as ZPC Kariba maintained their unbeaten run at Nyamhunga this season. Martin Vengesayi struck in the 91st minute as City launched a late bid but Chidzambwa’s boys hung on for a crucial victory.

Coincidentally, it was Harare City who handed ZPC Kariba their last defeat at Nyamhunga on July 13, 2016 when they were still being coached by Moses Chunga. However, this time incumbent gaffer Philani “Beefy” Ncube could not conjure a victory for the Sunshine Boys.

Although he won, Chidzambwa was still not impressed with the performance. “We played badly but the most important thing is we scored two goals and grabbed the three points. Sometimes we play badly and lose but this time we won,” said the veteran coach.

“We do not have any specific targets for the season; we are just taking each game as they come.” Ncube was left a disappointed man after his side suffered their second defeat in a row.

“We came here to compete but we were just unfortunate that at the time we were on top we conceded. We were in control in the first half when they scored and again in the second half we conceded at a time we were on top of the situation.

“Let’s see what happens in the upcoming matches. We have to psyche up the players as we go forward,” said Ncube.

ZPC Kariba are now on 38 points and fifth on the log, while City remain on 25 points and 12th.
