BANGLADESH batsmen enjoyed themselves in the middle on day one of the two-day warm up match against a Zimbabwe Select Eleven at Takashinga Cricket Club in Harare yesterday.
At the opening day’s proceedings, the Bangladeshis had posted a first innings score of 313/2 in 90 overs. Shakib Al Hasan top scored with 74 off 56 balls before he retired not out. Also retired not out was opening batsman
Saif Hassan on 65, Najmul Shanto who made 52 and Liton Das on 37. With the match being played over just two days, Al Hasan, Hassan, Shanto and Das had to step aside after getting enough time at the crease.
The Zimbabwean bowlers had started off well when Luke Jongwe removed Shadman Anik for a duck, with the left hander caught by Joylord Gumbie. Mominul Haque was the second Bangladeshis batsman to be dismissed on the day, the Bangladesh Test captain caught and bowled by leg spinner Brighton Chipungu for 29 runs.
Zimbabwe Select XI used nine bowlers on the day but all they could get was two wickets.
The Bangladeshis are expected to declare their first innings today so as to give their bowlers an opportunity to bowl at the Zimbabwean batsmen.
Bangladesh are using the warm up match to prepare for the only Test match against Zimbabwe, which starts at Harare Sports Club on Wednesday. — @Mdawini_29.
