Police have warned schools against keeping large sums of money in offices as they risk being attacked by robbers. In a statement yesterday, chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said cases of plain and armed robbers targeting schools were on the increase. She urged schools to bank their money.
“It has been observed that when schools opened on 14 and 15 January 2014, cases of plain and armed robberies targeting schools rose as the criminals were after school fees that was being paid at the schools,” Snr Asst Comm Charamba said.
She said school premises, especially administration offices, should be fully secured.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police will continue to carry out foot, cycle and motorised patrols to curb such incidences,” Snr Asst Comm Charamba said.
Eight armed robbers raided Kuwadzana 2 High School in Harare last week and got away with a safe containing over US$4 700 and receipt books.
The criminals broke the door to the bursar’s office and stole the money. They also attacked two security guards manning the school.
