The former Premiership club had Railstars to thank as the railway men derailed How Mine whom they beat 3-2. The gold miners had gone into the weekend game leading the pack with Bantu Rovers trailing them by two points.
In a sudden twist, Tshintsha Guluva are now at the top of the log and enjoy a point lead having amassed 29 points from 13 outings.
“We fought hard against Tsholotsho Pirates and I am happy we got our three points. What is important is to concentrate on our games and make sure that we get positive results and avoid relying on other teams.
“As for the championship, I think it’s early days to say we will win it but just like any other team in the league, we would like to clinch the title,” said Bantu Rovers’ coach Rueben “Exe” Tsengwa.
Rejuvenated utility player Kevin “Skopo” Sibanda got the solitary strike for Bantu Rovers. It seemed the weekend belonged to former Premiership clubs as Zimbabwe Saints finally got it right and registered their fourth victory of the season after beating Power Cosmos 1-0 courtesy of a strike by Binga-born Norman Sianchali.
However, despite the win, Chikwata remained glued in murky relegation waters where they are on position 14 with 12 points from the same number of games.
Edmore Sibanda, the Zimbabwe Saints gaffer was confident that the win signalled better things to come.
“This is a good result for us and we have been waiting for such a breakthrough. Right now we are going to work hard and ensure that we fight hard,” Sibanda said.
Championship hopefuls, ZPC Hwange beat Mpumalanga United 1-0 in a coal miners derby and the result left them five points behind Bantu Rovers who have played a game more than the electricity distributors.
