THE Bulawayo Basketball Association league is set to start after the long Covid-19 break with a men’s A League classification tournament at Khanyisile Courts on Saturday.

Lakers, Giants, Mavericks, Nust, Clippers, Highlanders, City Knights and Legends will battle it out for the seven available A League slots for this season.

BBA secretary-general Francis Dube yesterday said the league’s assembly decided at an extraordinary meeting to hold the classification tournament.

“This pre-season tournament will also usher in the new season and resumption of basketball activities,” said Dube.

He said the women’s league pre-season tournament will be held at Eveline High School on the same day, with Lakers A, Lakers Mzansi, Highlanders, Angels, Nust, Mavericks and City Royals taking part.

Dube said he was confident all participating teams will have fulfilled Sports and Recreation Commission Covid-19 guidelines.

“The association’s medical and athletes’ commissions have been supervising teams as they work towards meeting the SRC’s Covid-19 guidelines,” Dube said. — @innocentskizoe
