BCC WORKERS AND COUNCILLORS ARE CRIMINALS! Councillor slams into city fathers

Bulawayo City Council is in chaos after Ward Three Councillor Mxolisi Mahlangu launched a savage attack on council employees and fellow councillors, accusing them of running the city into the ground at the expense of struggling ratepayers.

In a seven-minute speech at the latest full council meeting, Mahlangu said council workers are operating with no supervision while councillors themselves have failed to hold them accountable.

He blasted the bizarre practice of auctioning council vehicles only for the same machines to be hired back by the city, calling it “a well-oiled system” that could be deliberate sabotage.

“We auction graders and other vehicles to private individuals and the same vehicles end up being hired back by council. Is this a problem with our mechanics, poor supervision, or rot within the whole institution?” Mahlangu demanded.

The outspoken councillor also condemned managers who turn up to work late, some as late as 10 am instead of the official 8 am start.

“Until we approach this council differently, we will keep complaining forever. The employees’ bad behaviour reflects our own failure as councillors, including you, Your Worship,” Mahlangu said.

He slammed council for aggressively chasing residents over tiny bill arrears while ignoring the “real criminals” inside council chambers — employees and councillors who avoid taking responsibility.

“Until councillors look inward, we risk becoming the worst in history. The biggest poverty we face is the bankruptcy of minds from the people we employ,” he warned.
