Police Support Unit officers have been urged to be professional and disciplined when discharging their duties.
Speaking during the Chikurubi Urban Dispol’s Inter Troop Sports gala in Harare on Thursday, Assistant Commissioner (administration) Jimmy Khumalo described discipline as a key element in Support Unit.
“Sport is recommended for all ages as it discourages self-destructive and delinquent behaviour thereby contributing to a more disciplined attitude which is a key element in Support Unit,” he said.
“Sport encompasses the various forms of physical activities carried by either an individual or a group in an organised or disorganised manner to recreate himself/herself, build his/her physique and test his/her state of fitness, irrespective of age, sex, place and time.”
Asst Comm Khumalo said sport is good for inculcating accountability, discipline, dedication and leadership.
“Good sportsmanship through involvement in sports also develops a person’s moral, ethical and spiritual values, because the highest standards which are practiced in this field will be absorbed into one’s personality and become his or her code of Ethics.Participating in sports would also instil the love of one’s country, ultimately contributing towards nation building,” he said.
Deputy Officer Commanding Chikurubi Urban district Superintendent Charles Makumi, said without support from members of the public, the force would not achieve much in its fight against crime.
He applauded DHL Express Zimbabwe for sponsoring the sports gala.
