A businessman here escaped death by a whisker after two unknown gunmen shot at him twice while travelling from Lutumba growth point to Beitbridge town around 9am yesterday.
Mr Oscar Chiromo, the director of Beitbridge Transit Shed (for imported vehicles), Chiromo Business Enterprises, that owns a chain of bottle stores, butcheries and an abattoir, was by end of yesterday still in a state of shock.
He is lucky to be alive after one of the bullets grazed his arm, leaving him with minor bruises.
The Herald understands that the gunmen, who appeared keen to kill him, tracked Mr Chiromo from his abattoir at Lutumba growth point to Andrews area, some 10km before
Beitbridge town.
“I was travelling in a Honda Fit with a colleague around 9am,’ said Mr Chiromo.
“When we were 10km towards Beitbridge, there was a grey Nissan Xtrail in front of us which slowed down to allow us to overtake.
“We had initially spotted the car near the abattoir, but suspected nothing. I was seated on the front passenger’s side.
“As we were overtaking the Nissan Xtrail, one of the two men in the vehicle shot at me twice, but fortunately one bullet missed and the other grazed my arm.”
Mr Chiromo said after shooting at him, the two assailants slowed down and made a U-turn, and sped off along the Beitbridge-Masvingo Highway.
Police Officer Commanding Beitbridge district, Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo said the matter was still under investigations.
