A MAN lost the money he had reserved for lobola and the vehicle he had hired while he was sleeping at a lodge in Harare.
Douglas Chinoona, 24, of Dulibadzimu, Beitbridge, lost US$2 400 he had left in a hired white Toyota GD6 (AGE 4106) which was parked at a lodge in Mabelreign.
He booked a lodge for one night on his way to Murehwa where he was scheduled to have a lobola ceremony.
Douglas had hired the vehicle from Good To Go Car Rental.
The car rental is located at the corner of Nemakonde and Harare Drive and is owned by Lawrence Mangenje.
Douglas was awakened by a lodge staff member advising him that two men came with a set of keys purporting to have been given authority by the car rental owners to fetch the vehicle.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case.
“Police are investigating a theft of a vehicle case in Mabelreign. In the vehicle glove compartment, there was US$2400 which belonged to the complainant.
“The complainant contacted the car rental owner and was advised to report the matter to the police station, whilst the owner used the tracker on the vehicle to disable the vehicle’s motion.
“At that time the vehicle was being driven towards Chegutu. The total value stolen is US$54 700 and nothing was recovered,” said Insp Chakanza. (H Metro)
