adminMwaruwari yesterday told the media that preparations for the match were at an advanced stage with at least 25 stars having shown commitment to come and play.
“So far so good.
“I am happy to be hosting the football stars but I don’t know how to explain the feeling.
“But I know that I am mostly doing it for the fans so that they get the experience and I urge them to come and support us,” said Mwaruwari.
Tsaurai Muzanenhamo, who is part of the organising committee, yesterday said they were hopeful of getting more confirmations.
“The main match will be between the Warriors and Friends of Benjani.
“Benjani will play for both teams.
“Alick Macheso, Jah Prayzah and Peter Moyo to provide some entertainment through music.
“There is going to be a main curtain raiser between football legends from the Southern Region and legends from the Northern Region,” said Muzanenhamo.
Former Bosso coach Mkhupali Masuku will co-ordinate the Southern Region side while Moses Chunga will handle the Northern Region team.
Muzanhamo said they have partnered CBZ to sell pre-match tickets starting from Monday.
“We have pre-match tickets that are going on sale from Monday at the CBZ nation-wide.
“The pre-match ticket sales have been made to avoid a stampede at the stadium on the match day,” he said.
The rest of the ground tickets are going for US$5 while bays 15-18 are selling for US$10.
“The VIP is strictly by invitation and we have reserved Bay 16 for corporate hospitality,” said Muzanenhamo.
On the eve of the match, the Benjani Mwaruwari Foundation will be officially launched at a dinner in the capital.
The aim of the foundation is to benefit a football academy, which Mwaruwari is setting up in Bulawayo.
Muzanhenhamo said, so far, African football stars like Chris Samba, Kolo Toure, Daniel Oliech from Kenya, Chris Kanu, John Utaka, Aaron Mokoena of South Africa and his counterpart Stephen Pienaar are expected to come for the high profile match. Benjani has also roped in former Leeds skipper Lucas Radebe, Nigeria’s Jay Jay Okocha and Spurs’ Emmanuel Adebayor.
The testimonial match has also attracted the interest of John Mensah, Kalilou Fadiga, Stephen Appiah, Alex Song and John Utaka.
Muzanenhamo said the Chelsea trio of Didier Drogba, Michael Essien and John Mikel Obi are out of the game due to club commitments.
