VILLAGERS in Mazungunye, Bikita, are still in shock after a horrifying domestic row turned deadly, ending with a mother axed to death by her son.
Wonderful Vurande (42) of Mazungunye Village in Bikita was arrested on 28 May 2025 after allegedly killing his mother, Mavis Dinha (62), in cold blood.
According to police, the brutal killing was sparked by a heated argument after Vurande demanded answers from his mother about who had impregnated his sister. When she failed to satisfy his curiosity, he snapped.
“Instead of calming down, the suspect went berserk,” said police. “He started accusing the victim of hiding the truth.”
Witnesses say Vurande picked up an axe and began destroying doors and household property before turning the weapon on his mother.
“He struck her once on the head and lower limbs with the axe,” police confirmed.
Villagers say the scene was like a horror movie, with blood splattered across the hut and the mother’s body lying lifeless on the floor.
“He’s always been short-tempered, but no one expected this,” said a shaken neighbour.
The police have since confirmed the arrest of Vurande and urged the public to resolve disputes peacefully.
“We continue to say #NoToCrime and urge people to seek help rather than resort to violence,” police said.
