UNITED KINGDOM-based musician Rogers Chinoperekwei has tackled the harsh conditions, which many African migrantworkers deal with when they settle in Europe, in his newalbum.

The six-track album, “PunchBag,” which also shines a light on domestic violence and other pressing societal issues was released last week.

The album is a scathing critique of the abuse of women, with the title track painting a harrowing picture of domestic violence.

One of the album’s stand out tracks, “Cheap Labour”, highlights the plight of African migrants who, despite being highly qualified, are subjected to exploitative working conditions in Europe.

Chinoperekwei likened their situation to modern-day slavery, where individuals are overworked and underpaid in menial roles despite holding good qualifications.

He said the title track “Punch Bag,’ tells the story of a woman who suffers physical and emotional abuse at the hands of her husband.

“This is a story that echoes what we are reading and seeing daily in newspapers and on social media platforms,” Chinoperekwei said.

“Domestic violence continues to be a widespread and destructive issue in society.”

The album also includes the track “Take Take,” which critiques jealousy and infighting among relatives while “Cappuccino” tackles greed and inequality in society.

“Cappuccino yamuri kumwa mega, inini ndotoidawo kuimwa,”sings Chinoperekwei.

The other track on the album is “Tamba Irikurira”, which is a dedication to his late mother.

He said the song resonates with grieving families or individuals who have lost their loved ones.

The other song on the album is “The other song on the albumis “Border to Border,” which dealswith toxicity.
