Chicken Inn eased their coaches’ woes when they picked up maximum points here this afternoon. Brian Muza was the unlikely hero when at the stroke of halftime a poor clearance hit him to beat the Arenel defence.
Arenel defended well throughout the match and were unlucky to walkout losers. Arenel were the first to take the initiative in the second minute. They won a corner kick on the right flank and Lucky Nyathi’s glancing header was saved by Donovan Bernard.
On minutes Itai Mabunu found himself unmarked in the box and his volley was saved by Delron Chuma the son of former Warriors goalkeepers trainer Tembo. In the 19th minute Chuma parried Muza’s shot for a corner, Chicken Inn’s second of the afternoon.
In the 30th minute Muza let go a full-bloodied shot saved by Chuma, following a move started by Mabunu wide on the right who fed Michael Charamba who switched play to the left. Muza who was lurking unmarked controlled and let go a scorcher that was well dealt with by impressive Chuma in goal for Arenel.
In the 43rd minute Joseph Tulani’s header was cleared off the line off a corner kick on the right flank. Muza broke the deadlock in the last seconds of the first half when a poor clearance in a goal melee hit him to cross the line to make it Chicken Inn 1-0 at halftime Lucky Nyathi and Chuma were outstanding for Arenel with defenders repelling attacks at the centre while Chicken Inn were flocking in numbers in attack with Joseph Tulani and Innocent Muchekela pulling the strings in front of centrebacks Itai Mabunu and US returnee Mpumelelo Bhebhe.
Albert Nyamutsaka was denied by Chuma in the 88th minute while a counter attack saw Arenel’s Zibusiso Dambo denied by Bernard. Six minutes into the refereree’s optional time Bernard dived full length to thwart Nyamutsaka’s scorcher.
