BIGGIE Tembo’s widow, Ratidzai Marasha, caused a stir on Tuesday at her food stall in Fidelity, Harare, where she assaulted a suspected cellphone thief.
The 61-year-old brought business to a standstill at Rosemary Shops in Fidelity as she wrestled with the unidentified man.
The matter is being handled at Trabablas Police Station.
“It’s true that I was arrested for assaulting a man who had stolen my cellphone,” she told Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub.
“I was seated here alone, waiting for my customers, when this man came and also occupied the bench for about two hours.
“After using my phone, I entered the restroom, where I realised that I didn’t have my phone.
“I found the man had disappeared.
“I then spotted the man, he was the only suspect, so I grabbed him by the collar.”
She added:
“I later received information that my phone had been picked up by a child and was handed to the child’s mother.
“When I arrived at the police station, he had already reported that I had beaten him up.”
Mai Tembo said the phone contained important information, including her grandchildren’s homework.
Her husband, Biggie Tembo, was the leading frontman in the legendary group Bhundu Boys.
In August 1987, the Bhundu Boys were one of the supporting acts for superstar Madonna during three consecutive nights of her ‘Who’s That Girl World Tour’ at Wembley in London.
Madonna played before a combined total of about 240,000 people during that Wembley run.
