Bikita Minerals forward Carlos Mukumbira says life in the top flight has not been easy as they battle to stay in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League
The 21-year forward was part of the players, who were retained after the club gained promotion in the PSL.
Since his debut, he has scored two goals and provided seven assists.
However, it took the bold decision of the club’s former head coach Saul Chaminuka to convert him from a defender to a forward, which the player has embraced very well.
Of all the teams that gained promotion this season, Bikita Minerals are the only club that is currently not in the relegation mix.
But of late, the club is struggling in front of goal and they have failed to win in any of their recent games.
The movement of Evans Katema and Allen Gahadzikwa in the mid-season seems to have impacted heavily on the team’s performance in front of the goal.
But on Saturday they will be hoping to turn their fortunes around when they host CAPS United in the Chibuku Super Cup knockout match at Sakubva.
Ironically Mukumbira fell in love with the game of football back in 2013 when he accompanied his uncle to watch CAPS United matches at home.
And, as he hopes for a successful maiden Chibuku Super Cup Tournament, his first hurdle is against the team that inspired him to play topflight football when he was a kid.
“Our goal is to reach the cup final. We have to organise ourselves and get the job done,” said Mukumbira.
“We have enough respect for our opponents but if we are to achieve, we have to eliminate whosoever we face.”
Mukumbira shared how difficult it was for him to adjust to coping with elite football in the country.
“During preseason I had a difficult time trying to adjust but, with time, I got used to the demands of the league.
“I even managed to assist Evans Katema during our first game and then the second game I scored against CAPS United at Rufaro.
“At the moment we are facing some difficulties as we aren’t scoring and I am wondering what’s happening but I am quite sure we will get over it,” he said.
