Black Caps opener confident

FOR Tom Latham, returning to the Black Caps environment means a chance to catch his breath. The 24-year-old opener played cricket 22 days out 24 before heading to South Africa, where the Black Caps are gathering at the start of what will be a busy eight months.

A test series against Zimbabwe begins later this month, and will be followed by others against South Africa, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and South Africa again before the end of March.

It’s a hectic schedule, but one Latham will probably find relatively comfortable after what he’s been up to as of late, playing county cricket for Kent in England.

While there, he has played six first-class matches, scoring 374 runs at an average of 46.75, with a highest score of 90.

He has also played a bit of one-day and Twenty20 – two games and seven games respectively – and said he had gained plenty from it.

“It was certainly a beneficial couple of months for me, just to get used to English conditions, with a couple of tours coming up there over the next couple of years.

I certainly enjoyed my time there, but I’m looking forward to what we’ve got coming up now.”- Stuff.
