AS Zimbabwe gears up for the long Easter and Independence holidays, the National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) is ringing alarm bells — and it’s all hands (and arms) on deck!
With blood stocks running dangerously low, especially the life-saving Group O, the NBSZ is urging the public to step up and donate to help save lives during what is typically the deadliest stretch of the year on the roads.
“We encourage all eligible donors to visit our branches or attend community blood drives. Your donation could be the difference between life and death,” said NBSZ.
The Easter break is Zimbabwe’s longest holiday — but it’s also notorious for a spike in road traffic accidents, which in turn skyrockets the demand for emergency blood transfusions.
Last week, the NBSZ sent out a desperate appeal for Blood Group O donors, as current supplies are critically low.
Motorists are also being urged to drive responsibly and avoid adding to the already strained emergency services.
This Easter, be a hero — roll up your sleeve and give the gift of life!
