THE headmaster cum-musician, Bob Nyabinde and his band, the Savanna Drive, will serenade afro-jazz revellers tonight (Friday) at the Wise Owl Motel in Mutare. The Chabuda hapana hit-maker and veteran afro-jazz musician dubbed the show ‘the reconnection’ show and said it would be a show to bring together folks who love old skool music and afro-jazz.
He added that the show was also meant to promote his latest album which was released late last year called ‘Anzwa Hama’ after a six-year recording hiatus.
This was Nyabinde’s fourth album since 2006 when he released his last album Terera.
Nyabinde, who is among the most venerated crooners in the country hit the spotlight in 2002 after releasing his first album, Panenyaya, which had the famous song, Chabuda Hapana.
Back then when he sang that album he was still a primary school headmaster at a Kwekwe school before hanging his tie to become a fulltime musician.
In 2004, he produced his second album Ndiratidze which became another chartbuster followed by Terera in 2006.
As in most of his previous shows in the eastern border city, Nyabinde will no doubt set a beautiful evening for the afro-jazz lovers who enjoy his deep, lyrical and sometimes satirical music in tracks like ‘Mhanya mbiri’, quite popular among Mutare revellers and Ndiratidze.
“I guarantee revellers of a beautiful evening as we kick-start the summer season. I love Mutare and always enjoy performing in Mutare,” said Nyabinde in an interview on Monday.
