A 42-year-old bookkeeper at Mac Brothers Zimbabwe Pvt Limited has appeared in court on allegations of stealing US$101 573 from her employer.
Kiritea Da Silva appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa facing theft charges.
She was granted US$300 bail. The complainant is Patrick Andrew Walsh a male adult who is the director of three companies namely Mac Brothers Zimbabwe Pvt Ltd, Pan Cleaning Services Pvt Ltd, and Brennan’s Diesel Services Pvt Ltd situated at number 19 Kelvin Road North, Graniteside, Harare.
Da Silva’s duties included general bookkeeping, cash receipting, and banking amongst other things.
The court heard that during the period extending from January 1, 2023 to August 2024 and during the course of her employment, Da Silva was entrusted with cash amounting to US$101 573, 60 on various occasions by her manager Ms Charlot Evans to deposit into the complainant’s Nedbank Nostro account 11990663345.
The court heard that Da Silva signed for the cash received, indicating her responsibility to deposit it.
It is alleged that instead of depositing the cash, she converted the money to her own use leading to the complainant’s prejudice.
Preliminary investigations conducted established that the accused converted a total of US$101 573, 60 to her own use leading to the police report.
The total value stolen is US$101 573, 60 and nothing was recovered.
