AS the countryas oldest team a Highlanders Football Club a celebrates a milestone of reaching 90 years in existence since it was founded in 1926 B-Metro Sport takes a look at a decade that produced arguably its most celebrated son, Peter Ndlovu.

Ndlovu started off as a nimble footed Highlanders Under-14 striker who won the Chibuku Trophy and the Bona Industry Tournament in the late 1980as.

In 1989 the gifted young player, youngestA sibling to his other famous brothers Adam and Madinda, broke into the Highlanders senior team as a 16-year-old and went on to be voted the Premier Soccer League Player of the Year in 1990 and 1991.

In the same decade Highlanders swept the league title four times in 1990, 1993 and 1998-99 but Nsukuzonke as Ndllovu was affectionately known to the legion of Bosso fans had left for greener pastures to Coventry City in England.

Nsukuzonke had impressed football scouts when he was part of a Zimbabwe Select team that toured Scotland and found his way into the more illustrious English Premier League with Coventry City.

He spent 14 years in England turning out for a number of clubs, among them Sheffield United and Birmingham, before retracing his footsteps back to Africa to play in the Absa Premiership in South Africa for Mamelodi Sundowns and later for Thanda Royal Zulu.

Ndlovu remains in the hearts and minds of Bosso supporters and those that were too young to watch him mesmerise defenders at Barbourfields Stadium have their elders to bank on for a word of mouth account of the history of the player.

The club hierarchy was so overwhelmed with demands for portraits of players such as Ndlovu at the recently concluded Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.

Bosso was exhibiting for the first time at the ZITF and club chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede hinted that the club was working on making such portraits available for sale.

Next week we focus on Bosso players that were voted Premier Soccer League Player of the Year from year 2000- 10.
