WORK to spruce up the Highlanders club house is in full progress, with the club revealing that it was forced to consider a loan and consultancy agreement approach in order to match other leisure spots in Bulawayo.
Bosso have engaged a consultant to renovate the club house and to attract customers when the work is completed.
The club said it was lagging behind in terms of attracting customers at the club house compared to other outlets in the city.
“Our entities continue to depreciate in value as our facilities are now dilapidated. Our particular concern was the Highlanders Sports Club Bar, which had dilapidated to the extent that even the most loyal patrons had deserted the place,” said the club chairman Johnfat Sibanda.
“Against this background, we had to find means of addressing these problems and the quickest, available and most convenient avenue was a loan and consultancy agreements approach, where we secured a loan to renovate the facility and bring in a consultant who will assist us revamp and mordenise this business,” said Sibanda.
Recent past and present Bosso administrations have spoken about sprucing up the Highlanders club house whose lease was secured in 1987 by the late Ndumiso Gumede, when he was the club’s chairman.
Highlanders also said it still had faith that principal sponsor, Sakunda Holdings, would fulfil their promise of renovating the club’s offices.
“We are in constant communication with our sponsors regarding the office renovations. There is an assurance from Sakunda Holdings that our offices will be renovated. The relationship with our sponsor has seen us enjoy additional benefits outside the sponsorship agreement and this gives us the confidence this promise will be fulfilled,” said Sibanda.
