Govt targets road reconstruction in Harare

GOVERNMENT says there is a need for a total overhaul of roads in Harare as council has failed in its mandate for service delivery.

Addressing members of the media after a tour of rehabilitation works at Alpes Road in Harare yesterday, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, Felix Mhona, said Government is working tirelessly to ensure routine maintenance of roads.

“Our Government has been working around the clock to ensure that roads are rehabilitated after President Mnangagwa declared all roads a State of Disaster in 2021.

“We are so happy to announce that starting next week the Ministry will do routine maintenance since it has awarded a number of tenders,” said the Minister.

Minister Mhona also commissioned several road construction equipment, including road re-claimers, bulldozers and excavators which were procured under the CMED racialisation programme.

“We are celebrating most of the equipment already on the ground and CMED is surely transforming itself into a multifaceted equipment centre with all government equipment solutions,” he said.
