HIGHLANDERS Football Club has lost a total of $17 625 in fines since the start of the 2016 Premier Soccer League season due to acts of violence and hooliganism by its supporters.
Pitch invasion and missile throwing by football fans attract a fine of $2 000. In extreme cases where fans commit acts of violence the club is hauled before the Premier Soccer League disciplinary committee.
The latest incident that is likely to leave Bosso in the red is the violent scenes that marred their 0-3 defeat to FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium last Sunday.
Last month suspended chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede bemoaned the needless loss of revenue in fines imposed on the club as a result of the behavior of supporters.
a?We are facing serious financial challenges which our supporters are fully aware of but we continue to lose more money in fines because of pitch invasion and missile throwing. A single plastic water bottle thrown onto the pitch, if seen and noted by the match commissioner, can cost the club $2 000,a? said Gumede.
At the time Bosso had paid a total of $16 000 in fines.
Meanwhile, the PSL will hold a stakeholders workshop which will be attended by security personnel from clubs, private security companies, the Zimbabwe Republic Police and club officials to review match organisation and security at football matches before the start of the 2017 season.
In a statement the PSL also condemned acts of violence during and after matches.
a?There is no place for violence and hooliganism in the game of football and the PSL will not condone such unacceptable behavior. Perpetrators of violence should be brought to book so that justice is served and violence is eradicated from our football.
a?We urge the Zimbabwe Republic Police to ensure that those who have transgressed face the consequences of their actions.
a?Meanwhile, we await the match report (of the Bosso and FC Platinum game),a? said PSL communications and media liaison officer Kudzai Bare.
