Bosso were our hardest Chibuku opponents – Chiefs captain

CHIBUKU Super Cup champions Bulawayo Chiefs regard Highlanders as the toughest opponents they faced on their way to glory.

Chiefs wrote their piece of history by winning the Chibuku Super Cup which headlined yesteryear football calendars and was re-introduced to the topflight in 2014 after beating Herentals 1-0.

Pint-sized midfielder Arthur “Diego” Musiyiwa scored the solitary goal, which tore the hearts of Herentals.

Malvin Mkolo, Chiefs captain expressing their jubilation said Bosso were their difficult opponents and after edging the Bulawayo giants 1-0 in the quarter-finals they grew in confidence.

Mkolo scored the goal that knocked Bosso out of the Chibuku Super Cup.

“The games were challenging but as a team it is the Highlanders game which was difficult. We had to clear that hurdle and after doing so, the tournament was for us to lose. This is not to say the other teams didn’t give us a challenge, but the Highlanders game was the most difficult,” said Mkolo.

On their way to lifting the Chibuku Super Cup, Chiefs knocked out ZPC Kariba in the first round and Highlanders – 2019 champions – in the quarter-finals by identical 1-0 score line. They went on to dehorn Black Rhinos 5-4 after penalty shootouts in the semi-finals having played to a 0-0 in regulation time to set up a Herentals final.
