Botswana Open misery for Zim players

ZIMBABWEAN players who took part in the recent Botswana Open failed to make a lasting impression when the best among them bowed out in the semi-finals.
Botswana’s Phenyo Matong won the tournament males’ category after outplaying Zambia’s Edgar Kazembe in the finals.

Matong had progressed to the final at the expense of Zimbabwe’s Liberty Nzula, while Kazembe found himself in the finals after outwitting another Zimbabwean, Tendai Tapfuma, in the semi-finals.

However, focus has now shifted to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Under-18 circuit that will get underway in the capital at Harare Sports Club this weekend. Mutare’s Mantas Tennis Academy is fielding a total of 12 players in the Harare ITF U-18 circuit tournament.

Mantas director of coaching, Freeman Nyamunokora, confirmed that a total of 12 players will partake in the Harare competition.

“We are sending 12 players for the ITF U-18 circuit tournament in Harare. They have all gone thorough preparations and we hope we will get good results when the tournament comes to an end,” he said.

Seeded duo of Alwin Mushonga and Kerren Muswere, Ngoni Makambwa, Batsirai Saurombe, Sinfree Tizora, Richard Ngwarwi, Tatenda Murape, Tanaka Rushwaya, Michael Gutu, Michael Zhou, Nandi Munyulwa and Rudo Mahachi make up the list of Mantas Tennis Academy players who will take part in the Under-18 circuit tournament in Harare.
