Bowler Jane Rigby beat Diana Viljoen

ZIMBABWE’S bowler Jane Rigby started the singles competition on a good note when she beat the hosts’ Diana Viljoen 21-14 at the Africa States Bowls tournament at the Windhoek Country Club yesterday.  Rigby won a silver medal in the Pairs, as a partner of Mel James.
The South Africans won gold while Zambia settled for bronze.
In the Trips, South Africa also won gold, Zambia took silver and Zimbabwe settled for the bronze medal.
In the Fours, Botswana beat South Africa for only the first time in their history.

The Botswana team was represented by Obie  Mosimanyana, Tibone Fox, Nelly Senna and Pauline Lekone.
“We had never beaten South Africa, I started playing bowls many years ago and we used to be beaten each time we played them,” said Mosimanyana.

“This time we have made history because South Africa are a very good side and beating them is a great achievement for us.
“We have started the Fours on a good note and we hope to win our remaining matches.”
Botswana beat South Africa 22-11 in the Fours.
Zimbabwe Fours team lost 16-17 top Namibia.
