Boxing tourney cancelled

Zaba technical director, Petros Masiyambumbi said they have resolved to cancel the event after the hosts failed to respond con­firming their state of readiness to host the tournament.
“We can no longer hold the event because we have been communi­cating with the administrators to give their state of preparedness but they have not confirmed with us.
“And as a national association we do not want to be embarrassed, we can not continue postponing the tourna­ment so we have decided to cancel the competition. We cannot tolerate such behaviour.
“We do not want to have fighters coming from all over the country only to be turned away when they are already at the venue like what hap­pened last time.
“We are all facing financial chal­lenges and it’s better we save the lit­tle we have,” said Masiyambumbi.
Masiyambumbi, however, said the other tournament set for Bindura on September 29 is still on and they are hoping all the provinces will take part.
The event was meant to cater for provinces that would have failed to go to Kwekwe but is now expected to fea­ture all provinces.
“The event in Bindura is still on and everything is in place. We have already sent the invitations to the provinces and most of them are willing to take part,” said Masiyam­bumbi. The tournament is being used to prepare for the national champi­onships to be held in Hwange on October 27.
The Zimbabwe National Army are the national defending champi­ons and will be hoping to use the tournament to fine tune their box­ers for the cham­pionships.
