Brazil FC in dazzling performance

Tobias Mandoreba Hwange Correspondent
A REJUVENATED Brazil FC took their success starved fans down memory lane with a dazzling performance reminiscent  of their yesteryear dominance in Hwange football circles when they hammered Ingagula 3-1 at Makwika Stadium at the weekend. This was Brazil’s first win this season.

Whoever thought Brazil would never win a game this season had to be there to witness the drama unfold as Ingagula’s dream of a stroll in the park against the league’s punch bags turned out to be a nightmare.

The team, which had managed just two draws before the wildly celebrated win which brought the entire Makwika Village to life, scored through Morestuff Ncube,  Joel Tshuma and Costa Banda while Ingagula got their face saver from Joel Mpala.

Tshuma, together with Felix Ncube and James Mbulo were signed from Kabwe Warriors who were recently booted out of the Zifa Southern Region Division One league and the trio seems to have breathed new life into the Brazil FC brand.

In the other matches, Makomo FC and Amagagasi swapped places for the second time in a fortnight in what is turning out to be a fascinating tussle for the championship crown.

Amagagasi went into the weekend on top of the log standings but were frustrated by Classic Luyando in a local resort town derby which ended in a 1-1 stalemate to surrender the top position.

Petro Nyoni scored for Amagagasi  while Lucky Ndlovu hit the nets for the stubborn Luyando. Makomo took full advantage of the slip up with a convincing 5-0 hammering of visiting Zambezi Lions to open a single point advantage. The miners went on the rampage through goals by Shepherd Mwale (brace), Loyd Chimuchenga, Craven Tamirepi and Peter Phiri.

ZRP Hwange maintained third  position slot with a 2-0 win over Hwange Under-17s.

Dzingai Maugara and Bruce Mathe scored for the policemen. A tense Lwendulu derby pitting Blackrock and Iwisa at Sports Pavilion ended in a goalless draw though Blackrock’s regular goal scorer Clifford Phiri denied his side maximum points when he blazed his penalty kick over the bar in the second half.

Victoria Falls based Corinthians fell at home when they were edged 2-1 by Fire FC at Chinotimba Stadium.

Thamsanqa Ncube scored for the hosts while Stuart Mwanza and Jameson Manda’s goals ensured Fire FC travelled back to their Madumabisa base a jubilant lot.

On Sunday, army side Moto Moto continued with their marvellous form after edging fourth placed Victoria Falls Tigers 1-0 at Sports Pavilion. Prolific goal scorer Nkonzani Nkomo grabbed the all important goal for the Freddy Mudano-coached soldiers. Baobab Rovers finally remembered how to win when they edged Prison Eagles 1-0 at Megawatt Stadium courtesy of an Alexio Masukume goal.

Meanwhile, the provincial chairperson Denis Tshuma has confirmed that the Zifa Matabeleland North Division Three league in Dete is now in full swing as part of efforts to spread the game in the province. Sparrows FC sit on top of the log with 38 points from 15 games in the 18-team race which has now entered Week 16.

The Lupane Division Three league, comprising seven teams, kicked off a fortnight ago with Shining Stars  leading the pack with six points from two games.
