UPDATED: Gumede clarifies Mafu situation

HIGHLANDERS Football Club have dismissed circulating rumours  that they have fired coach Bongani Mafu and said the coach has actually been given a one-match ultimatum and would be relieved of his duties should the team fail to win against pacesetters Chicken Inn on Sunday at Barbourfields.

The club’s chief executive Ndumiso Gumede today said while  the technical team had failed to meet their target since the season began, they had  been given time.  However, another loss in the high profile match this weekend will see the technical team getting matching orders.

“We are also worried on the poor performance of the team and have expressed to the technical team that should we lose the Chicken Inn match then they would have missed the first half objectives and there would be no point for them to carry on.

“I am saying that if they lose the next game and win all the remaining nine matches they will not meet the target and it would be pointless,” said Gumede.
