Brothers convicted of assaulting cops

while his brother Givemore (32) who is a member of the Zimbabwe National Army was fined US$200.
The brothers will spend the next three months in prison if they fail to meet the sentences.
They were jointly charged for assault and resisting arrest when they appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Toindepi Zhou, but they denied the charges.
Circumstances were that on May 12 this year twin brothers Constables Tendai and Farai Katonha (27) who are employed as police officers stationed at Chitungwiza Police Station were on patrol with their counterpart Cst Dendere in Unit K, L and M.
When the police officers arrived at Unit L Shopping Centre, they arrested Givemore for public drinking.
The court heard that when Cst Tendai tried to cuff him, he started assaulting him with blows before head butting him.
Shingirai joined the fight and went on to punch the helpless officer, inciting a mob to join in the assault. This prompted the other two officers to fire warning shots into the air to disperse the crowd and they managed to arrest the brothers.
