A 17-YEAR-OLD boy’s evening chore turned into a horror scene when two men pretending to help him carry a bucket of water stabbed him in the neck and snatched his cellphone.
Thabo Sibanda (26) from Thorngrove has been dragged before the Western Commonage Magistrates’ Court facing robbery charges after allegedly stabbing Mkhaliphi Ndlovu and stealing his Honor X5 phone near the Emakhandeni B booster on 4 July.
Appearing before Magistrate Archie Wochiwunga, Sibanda denied the charges, claiming he was nowhere near the scene. The case has been postponed to 23 July pending a medical report.
Prosecutor Audrey Kufandikanwe told the court that the incident happened around 7PM, when the unsuspecting teenager was fetching water. Sibanda and his still-at-large accomplice offered to help carry the bucket.
However, after walking a short distance, Sibanda allegedly pulled out a knife and plunged it into Ndlovu’s neck. The attackers grabbed the boy’s cellphone and bolted, leaving him bleeding.
Ndlovu was rushed to Mpilo Hospital with a deep neck wound and remains under medical care.
Sibanda, cool as ice in the dock, insisted: “I didn’t do it. I wasn’t even there.”
But with a teen victim in hospital and a manhunt on for the second suspect, justice is circling fast…
