In the bustling heart of Bulawayo, where the streets hum with the rhythm of football dreams, a new chapter is being written for the city’s finest exports at Scottland FC in Harare.
The contingent of Bulawayo-born stars, who made the high-profile switch to the new moneybags of the local game earlier this year, are not just settling in—they are thriving. And as the 2025
Castle Premier Soccer League season looms, the mood in the camp is one of confidence and unshakable determination.
The move to Scottland FC was met with fanfare back home, with Bulawayo’s football purists hailing it as a watershed moment for the city’s footballing legacy. For years, the city has been a breeding ground for raw talent and the transition to the riches that have often come with packing one’s bags and moving to wealthier clubs in the capital has often been fraught with challenges.
This time, however, it seems the stars have aligned.
“It’s been a seamless transition,” said Lynoth “Sonji” Chikhuwa, last season’s Golden Boot winner and first runner-up in the Soccer Star of the Year awards who has quickly become a fan favourite at Scottland FC.
“The club has made us feel at home, and the style of play here suits us perfectly. We are learning, growing, and most importantly, we’re happy.”
Chikhuwa’s sentiments are echoed by his compatriots, including the towering defender Peter Mudhuwa and the fleet-footed midfielder Godfrey Makaruse. Together, they have formed the spine of a Bulawayo contingent that has brought a touch of Zimbabwean flair to the ‘Scottish’ game.
But while their exploits Bulawayo with jaded former giants, Highlanders last season impressive, the focus is already shifting to the 2025 Castle Premier Soccer League season. For these players, the league represents more than just a competition—it’s a chance to cement their legacy and bring glory to their hometown.
“We’re training and training hard,” quipped Mudhuwa, his trademark grin lighting up the room.
“We are taking this time to recharge, to reflect, and to prepare. When the time comes, we will be ready to give everything for Bulawayo and for Scottland FC.”
The club’s management has been equally effusive in their praise for the Bulawayo contingent.
“These lads have brought something special to the team,” said Scottland FC’s vice president and Zimbabwe Football Association board member, Brighton ‘Panjap’ Ushendibaba.
“Their work ethic, their passion, and their skill have been a revelation. We are excited to see what the will bring to the Castle Premier Soccer League this season.”
Back in Bulawayo, the excitement is palpable. The city’s football fans, known for their unwavering loyalty and fiery passion for Bosso, are already counting down the days to the new season. For them, the success of their sons at Scottland FC is a source of immense pride—and a sign of greater things to come.
As the sun sets over the rolling hills of Bulawayo, one thing is clear: the city’s footballing stars are on the rise yet again, and the rest of the world is taking notice again. With the 2025 Castle
Premier Soccer League season on the horizon, the Bulawayo contingent at Scottland FC is ready to write the next chapter in their remarkable journey.
And if their form last season is anything to go by, it’s going to be a story worth telling.
