BULAWAYO residents proved their big hearts as they flocked to donate blood at a National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) drive on Friday.
Southern Region Coordinator Sifundo Ngwenya told B-Metro the campaign, run in partnership with Redan, aims to collect 450 units, slightly up from the 425 units collected at the last drive.

“This is a blood drive we have been running for quite some time now, and we are really grateful for the people of Bulawayo who always come out in large numbers to donate,” said Ngwenya.
The drive kicked off at 6AM and will run until 6PM, with volunteers aged 16 to 65 encouraged to participate.
“Life is in the blood. We hope a lot of people will show up throughout the day,” he said.
Ngwenya stressed the urgent need for blood, especially type O, which can be given to anyone regardless of blood group.
“The Southern Region has seen a significant number of accidents lately, making donations essential. Blood is sometimes highly used and sometimes moderately used, but type O is always in high demand,” he said.
The drive not only saves lives but also educates the public on the importance of regular blood donation. Bulawayo once again showed that a simple act of kindness can go a long way.
