HARARE regional magistrate Mr Francis Mapfumo has convicted businessman Tendai Jemwa, who was involved in a $29 million property dispute with his brother-in-law.

Jemwa was found guilty of fraud after a full trial that was prosecuted by Mr Ephraim Zinyandu.

He was remanded in custody on Friday pending his sentence on April 22.

Thomas Masango accuses his brother-in-law, Jemwa, of unlawfully removing him from a jointly purchased property in Spitzkop, Snake Park, Harare in 2007.

The two are married to sisters and had entered into a verbal business partnership.

Mr  Zinyandu told the court that Masango and Jemwa had agreed that Masango would hold a 50 percent share in Ten Jem Consultancy Pvt Ltd, the company formed to manage the property.

However, in 2012, Jemwa defrauded Masango by secretly obtaining the property’s transfer documents from their lawyer without Masango’s consent.

Jemwa completed the property transfer solely to Ten Jem Consultancy Pvt Ltd and failing to honour the agreed 50 percent shareholding arrangement.

Masango claimed that Jemwa unlawfully removed his name from the jointly owned property, sparking a bitter feud over the high-value asset.
