Businessman in fit of rage . . . Caught on camera brutally assaulting suspect

POLICE have arrested a Dangamvura businessman on allegations of brutally assaulting a customer with a log over a 50 cents dairy product stolen from one of his shops.

The incident, which was caught on camera by a passerby who witnessed the brutal attack, has gone viral on the social media.

It has become the talk of the high-density suburb, with residents condemning the businessman’s action, saying he was supposed to have handed the suspected shop lifter to the police than striking him on the head with a log.

Paul Sikamadzi, who runs Huruyadzo grocery shops in the suburb and is popularly known as “Daddy Paul” this week spent two nights in police cells at Dangamvura Police Station for assaulting Frank Karuwa with a log.

He was expected to appear in court on assault charges at the time of going to Press.

Karuwa who bled profusely after the brutal attack was admitted at Mutare Provincial Hospital where he is recuperating.

Police officers handling the matter revealed that after striking the complainant, the businessman volunteered to ferry him to hospital for treatment.

“He took him to hospital as he was in a bad state. We opened an assault record against him. He had agreed to come back to the police station, but failed to honour his promise. We subsequently arrested him on Monday,” said one of the investigating officers who requested anonymity citing protocol.

In the video, Sikamadzi is seen wrestling with the alleged shoplifter.

He was holding a log in his right hand. He proceeded to hit him with the log resulting in him falling down.

He became unconscious. Those witnessing the assault were left shocked.

A day after the incident, rumours circulated that Karuwa had passed on following the assault, but it later emerged that he was admitted at Mutare Provincial Hospital.
