HELLO there folks, how are you doing this week?
I was stopped in town the other day by a group of men who obviously complained that I do not write enough about men . . . kikiki SORRY! Maybe it is because women write to me more often and then two of the guys asked about shaving. I looked at their chin and side cheeks which looked painful….kikiki. They had pimples and dark patches from bruising. So after some investigations from men who have smooth shaves time after time I finally got a winning formula. Here it is . . .
It’s summer time, which means the need to shave is more often. No one wants to be hot around the face because of excess hair growth. But what is worse, is a bad shave, that leaves you with lumps/pimples which itch endlessly when you sweat. A good, close shave can turn a chore into a pleasant morning ritual. Following these shaving tips should help you achieve optimum skin health, avoid shaving problems and help you look and feel your best.
It is important for men to pay as much attention as there are a lot of myths related to male skincare during this time of the year.
The most common myth is that shaving causes skin redness. And it isn’t only about avoiding nicks and cuts while in a hurry, but maintaining that soft and smooth skin sans any irritation or redness. It starts with a good clean razor men. Many men cannot afford a quality shaving machine or razor, so they opt for the $1 pack ones. Nothing wrong with that. But then these are made for single shaving, as in you use them once, then throw it away. Yes I know you think thats a waste of money – no this is saving your skin. A good machine is a Gillette MACH3 is an advanced razor that provides a closer shave, and guarantees zero redness. It’s nano-thin blades are progressively aligned to extend gradually closer to the hair, resulting in a close shave in a single stroke. Once you have a good / quality razor, there is a ritual you need to follow:-
The Clock
Don’t rush through a shave and make sure you wash your face. Do not wash your face with a hard soap before you shave, use a soft soap, like Lux or Dove or similar. Life Buoy, Green soap or black soap are too strong just before a shave. When done, lather up with shaving cream or gel. Let it sit for two to three minutes. Brush your teeth to pass the time. If you are using soap to shave, do not let it sit on your face, start your shave straight a way.
The sweeps
Apply a small amount of pre-shave gel onto hands and massage into the beard to help lift the hair and ease the shaving process by providing a cushion between your skin and the razor. Gels usually offer more lubrication, and transparent ones are useful if you have facial hair and need to see where you are going with the razor. Remember to always use a good quality sharp razor blade.
The temperatures
Another key to a good shave is keeping the skin hot and moist. Use warm moisturised towels to prep the skin pre-shave. You also need a bowl of hot water to refresh your razor as you go. – Follow your shave with a cold water rinse. Cold water reduces inflammation.
The command
Though you may get a closer shave if you go against the grain, you make razor burn or ingrown hairs more likely. It is the in grown hairs that cause the bumps on your skin. Also infections cause pimples on the skin too. The more time you go over an area, the more irritation you’ll get. If you have thick hair, it’s particularly important to go with the grain. It is this simple gentlemen, try it and let me know if it works. Some of the men who have done this say another trick is to not let your beard grow too long because then you need to go over the area several times.
That is it from me this week, until next week, God bless!
