Zanu-PF Midlands Province is targeting to register over 150 000 people under the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) mop up exercise which kicked off yesterday.The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) announced that the BVR mop up exercise, which targets potential voters who failed to register in the previous exercise, would end on February 8.
In an interview yesterday, the ruling party’s Midlands provincial chair, Cde Daniel Mackenzie Ncube, said the province activated all party structures to ensure that people register. He said the province had fallen short of its target when ZEC closed the registration exercise.
“As the province, we were targeting 800 000 voters from our 10 administrative districts, but when ZEC closed the registration exercise, we were just below 654 000 people registered in the province,” said Cde Ncube.
“What this means is that we were far from our intended target and the mop up exercise has presented us with the opportunity to reach our target.” Cde Ncube said some teams were going to conduct door-to-door campaigns, urging people to register under the BVR.
“Our province is critical. All eyes are on this province, so we need to lead by example. We have activated our systems and said let’s utilise this chance and register. It’s up to 8 February and there after the window will have closed, so we are racing against time which is not on our side,” he said.
