Musawenkosi Moyo
A documentary series celebrating the life and legacy of the late iconic Bulawayo hip-hop rapper, songwriter and producer, Calvin Nhliziyo is set to be released this month.
The series will offer fans and viewers a deeper and more intimate understanding of the life, music career and the industry influence of this iconic figure. The series titled Cal_Vination is set to premiere in August.
Nhliziyo aka Cal_Vin also known as “Luveve Boy” was born on 15 December 1985 and grew up in Luveve suburb in Bulawayo. He recorded his first studio track in 2003 and it became widely popular in 2014 with his track Z’Khiphan.
Some of his albums included Askies, The Planet Vin, Dat Luveve Boy and Perfect Balanced. The artiste passed away on 25 October 2020 after being involved in a hit and run accident. His passing left a mark on the Bulawayo music industry with his vocals and commitment to addressing social issues in his songs.
In an interview, Makara Jcine Jaison, the producer of the series, explained that he was motivated to create the project due to a personal connection with the artiste’s music. The music resonated with his life struggles and he deeply respected the artist’s legacy and influence on the Bulawayo music industry.
“Calvin was an incredible artiste whose music impacted the community and the art industry not only in Bulawayo but in the whole country, I feel honoured and excited to be sharing his story and uncovering new aspects of Calvin’s life with the world.

“Calvin often spoke about the lack of appreciation for artistes in Bulawayo and his vision for a more sustainable industry. I believe and hope that this documentary will open doors for many artistes’’ he said.
To provide a comprehensive understanding of the iconic artiste, he mentioned that he was collaborating with the late artiste’s mother, who serves as the executive producer of the series. He further said that the story will be told through his music by using each album as a season and each song as an episode, requiring 13 episodes to make a season and that they will be working with other artistes such as Mzoe 7, ASAPH, Pro Zec and MC Tyto who either worked or were influenced by the artiste.
The series will be screened online on the channel I Tell Stories and they are working on having it aired on local and regional television channels.
