WARRIORSa chances of making it in future World Cup tournaments could be vastly improved if recent pronouncements by the world soccer governing body, Fifa, are anything to go by.
Remember our beloved Warriors have never qualified for the World Cup.
But hold on, Fifa president Gianni Infantino, who recently met several African football heads including Zifa president Philip Chiyangwa, said the African continent will have two more places at future World Cups.
Infantino reiterated Fifaas commitment on the continent and said the World football governing body plans to increase the number of teams participating at World Cup from the current 32 to 40.
a?I believe for the 2026 World Cup, we should have 40 teams and out of the additional eight teams we should have at least two more African teams,a? Infantino was quoted as saying by Supersport in Abuja, Nigeria.
He added: a?We are discussing this and I hope I will be able to convince everyone as well.a?
Africa currently has five places at the global showcase held every four years.
The Warriors were banned from participating in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers due to money owed to former head coach Tom Saintfiet.
Saintfietas debt was eventually paid but after the draw had been made.
